21st Rum-Regatta Flensburg 2000

Gaffelmarkt   direction before the race start
The "Gaffelmarkt", a maritime market with nearly no commerce, vocational offers and tradional trade. The direction of the catains: the slogan "... lieber heil und zweiter, als kaputt und breiter !" is a reminder to avoid crashes of ships.
In the beginning of June I followed an invitation sailing the Flensburg Rum-Regatta aboard the "Hans von Wilster". This short sailing trip fulfilled a lot of my dreams. More than 100 boats, I had seen only about 20 of them before, galeasses, schooner, cutter, zeesenboats, ewer, viking ships and a lot of other kinds of ships sailed the non-serious race along the Flensburg Bay. The granting of prices is one of the highlights of the event. The winner in the different classes of ships is awarded with a fun-price, the second gets a bottle of best rum from Flensburg. On Sunday it was coming down heavens hard, when the ships left Flensburg sailing home.

Thank you to Friedemann for this sailing trip, thank you "Hans von Wilster", and thank you to all the members of our crew. I hope we will meet soon.

By the way, do you know these sailing ships?
