  • successor of the famous "Presidente Sarmiento" in the Argententine navy which sailed 1,100,000 nautical miles as a training ship and thereby set up an undisputed record for training ships, "Libertad" is Argentinia's 5th schoolship
  • designed and built by the Navy, keel laid at Naval Dockyard at Rio Santiago in 1953, lauched 1956, commissioned in 1960, sailed on her maiden voyage 1963.
  • a fast sailing vessel e.g. in 1966 record from Cape Race, Canada to the Dublin/Liverpool line (2059 miles) in 8 days 12 h (average speed of 10 knots) and a top speed of 18 to 19 knots.
  • the ship mostly sails on 6 month tours with cadet officers.
  • awarded until 2000 7 times (1966, 1976, 1981, 1985, 1987, 1992, 1998) the Boston Teapot Trophy of the ISTA, award is anually given to the sail training vessel having covered the greatest distance under sail over a period of 124 hours.
  • often participates in windjammer meetings and regattas e.g. Bremerhaven in 1990 and the Columbus Regatta in 1992 as well as Rouen in 1994. She is remarkable for her good condition and the crew's discipline.
