  • replica of a caravel belonging to the Venetian John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto), who sailed to North America (Newfoundland) in 1497 on behalf of the English King Henry VII. The voyage is considered as the discovery of Newfoundland.
  • built from 1994 to 1996 on Redcliffe Wharf by the Bristol Classic Boat Company to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Cabot's voyage in Bristol, GBR; drawings by Colin Mudie, inaugurated at the International Festival of the Sea in Bristol in 1996.
  • voyage in 1997 to Bonavista, Lark Harbour, and other coastal towns of Newfoundland, CAN.
  • subsequently, attended several maritime events on the coasts of Western Europe.
  • initially operated by the registered charity Bristol Trust, which transferred the responsibility for the ship to The Matthew of Bristol Trust in 2012; all income from donations and profits from public and private voyages are used for the preservation of the ship.
  • today open to visitors in Bristol with a shop, exhibition space, and a cafĂ©, occasional tours with guests, conservation work during the winter months by volunteers.
