  • the original sloop "Friends Good Will" was built in 1811 as a merchant vessel to transport goods and settlers in the Great Lakes area by the salesman Oliver Williams, later in 1812 renamed "Little Belt" and became a part of the Royal Naval Squadron in the war on the upper Lakes. In a battle on lake Erie she returned under American flag in 1813, transporting General William Henry HarrisonÂ’ s troops across Lake Erie in the successful invasion of Southern Ontario, destroyed by fire by the British in January 1814.
  • todays "Friends Good Will" was designed and built by Scarano Boat Building in Albany, New York, a boatbuilder specialized in historic reproductions, the ship meets U.S. Coast Guard standards and is licensed for carrying passengers.
  • launched in Albany, NY on August 29, 2004, maiden voyage to South Haven, Michigan in August/September 2004.
  • fitted with an interactive classroom suitable for teaching school children and other interested groups she is available for education and training sessions featuring topics like history, design and construction, rigging, operational procedures and policies, navigation, marlinspike skills, and historic black powder gunnery; operated by a volunteer crew as an active museum ship of the Michigan Maritime Museum based in South Haven.
