  • a frigate with 44 cannons to combat pirates in North African waters
  • up to 1801 she had captured several pirate ships and was also used as a flag ship
  • the vessel remained in active service until 1855 and was then a training ship up to 1881
  • in 1979 she was overhauled as a maritime memorial, acted as a museum ship from 1934 and became the flag-ship of the First Naval District in Boston in 1941
  • after being completely overhauled from 1973-76, she is now able to sail at any time
  • in 1976 an oak wood was planted, which will be used for a further overhaul in the year 2018
