  • American fishing and whaling ship, initially fully rigged and later rigged only as a bark in order to save on crew.
  • 10 voyages from New Bedford to the Pacific plus one voyage each to the South Atlantic and Indian Ocean from 1841-86.
  • in 1886 she went on a search for new whaling grounds in the Bering Strait, Beaufort Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk.
  • laid up in Fairhaven in 1913, then made 4 further voyages in 1916; finished whaling in 1921 after a total of 37 voyages.
  • she was later used for a number of film productions and has been museum ship under the ownership of the Mystic Seaport Museum Inc. since 1941.
  • according to some news in 2010 she will be restored now to become seaworthy again.
