Portrait of the sailing ship:

Last update: 25 Mar 2021

  • seen from the outside, this vessel is a faithful replica of the legendary "Bounty", which inspired numerous authors and film directors through the mutiny that took place on board in the South Seas in 1789; the rigging is absolutely identical, which means that the ship has to be sailed in the same way as the 18th Century original. Her steel hull is covered by timber planking.
  • built for filming "Mutiny on the Bounty", she was offered for sale at the movie's premiere in Los Angeles; later used as a charter ship but also for shooting movies in Sydney since 1990, she offers round trips of the harbour and charter cruises, returned to Tahiti for the making of a documentary series about the voyages of Captain Cook; after taking part in Australia's bicentenary celebrations, the "Bounty" sailed to the waters of Polynesia, the ship was under the command of Capitain Bligh-Ware: precisely 200 years after the famous mutiny on board and in the identical position, he symbolically handed over command of the vessel to his helmsman Gerry Christian, a descendant of Fletcher Christian.
  • 2007 sold to Hong Kong Resort International Limited and registered in Hong Kong, CH, tourist attraction and also used for charter, excursions and sail training, based in Discovery Bay on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, CH.
  • decomissioned in August 2017.
