  • a small wooden brigantine used as a private yacht for cruises along the east coast of America.
  • 1958 sold, she helped to promote the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City by anchoring at the museums' pier in the early 1970s, under her new owner she sailed to Europe and the Caribbean.
  • took part in the first New York OpSail in 1964
  • took part in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race in 1972 together with the "Eagle", the first American vessels to do so. This led to the founding of the ASTA (American Sail Training Association).
  • took part in the Transatlantic Race from the Bermudas to Boston organized by the ASTA in 1976.
  • its rigging enables the vessel to be managed by only 2 seamen.
  • after the founding of the BLACK PEARL HOLDING COMPANY to preserve the ship, she was completely overhauled in 1985.
  • took part in the 1986 Operation Sail in New York. A one-hour documentary film about the "Black Pearl" was made in 1990 with the support of the National Maritime Historical Society.
  • 1993 purchased by the Aquaculture Foundation, used for sail training programs for a regional high school devoted to teaching marine science via hands-on techniques.
  • By the mid 1990s in need of a complete restoration, Aquaculture Foundation embarked upon a capital campaign to raise the necessary funds, laid up in in Chester, USA.
