  • this ship is reminiscent of the great frigates of the 19th century because of the spectacular decorative work on her hull and rigging.
  • built in 1930, launched 1931, to train national and international officer cadets, she belongs to the Marina Militare, Accademia Navale in Livorno.
  • mainly trains students in the Mediterranean but also makes Transatlantic trips to North and South America.
  • has participated in many windjammer meetings, e.g. Sail Amsterdam 1985, Sail Bremerhaven 1990 and the 1992 Columbus Race, the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race as part of the 1996 Sail Training Association Mediterranean fleet and participated the Tall Ships 2000 series to Genoa, Cadiz, Bermuda, Boston and Halifax.
  • named after the seafarer and cartographer Amerigo Vespucci (1454-1512) from Florence who was long considered the discoverer of America.
  • her sister ship, the "Christoforo Colombo" (built 1928) was given to the Soviet Union after the war as a reparation, used under the name "Dunay", decommissioned in 1971, scrapped in Odessa in 1972.
