- this training ship was built at the Framnæs Mekaniske Verksted in Sandefjord, Norway for the Oslo Sail Training Ship Society in 1937, launched on February 5, 1937.
- she visited the world exibition in New York in 1939 as part of a training trip.
- during World War II in 1940 seized by the Germans and used as a depot ship for crew of submarines, in 1945 she was hit by allied planes during an attack on Flensburg in Germany and sunk in the habour.
- restored and re-rigged at a cost of 70,000 pounds until 1947 at her building shipyard in Norway, re-started her career as a training vessel.
- This ship became famous as an adventure ship in 1956-57 because of the Cinerama film "Windjammer" and later as one of the stars in the TV series "The Onedin Line".
- undertook transatlantic voyages to New York in 1956, 1964, 1976, 1986 and to the Caribbean and the West Coast of the USA 1979-80, called ports on the American East coast and participated in the 1992 Columbus Race, took also part in the Sail Bremerhaven 2000.
- general overhaul in 1980-83 at the Framnæs Mekaniske Verksted.
- the "Skoleskipet Christian Radich" foundation has taken over the management from the Ministry of Education.
- from 1999 on, the ship has been on the charter market as well as sailing with paying trainees to foreign ports on summer trips, participating in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races and large sail events in various European ports.
- extensive restoration of the hull in winter 1999/2000 and 2000/2001.
- 2010 winner of the tall-ship races between Antwerp to Aalborg and Kristiansand to Hartlepool as fastest participant in class A.
- 2010/2011 drydocked and maintenance of the hull at A&P Tees, Middlesbrough, GBR.
- named for Christian Radich, an officer, managing director, and ship owner (1822-1889) from Kristiania (Oslo), who donated the money to build a ship.
